3D Stereoscopic Pair of Photos

3D Stereoscopic Pairs Left - Hotel Beatriz - Lanzarote
3D Stereoscopic Pairs Right - Hotel Beatriz - Lanzarote

Up in the rafters of the Hotel Beatriz & Spa, Lanzarote. I took the lift to the top and took the picture. You get a sense of the size of this hotel. You can turn on the lights of this hotel on by clicking here.

Again, this set of images were taken with my Sony Cybershot P43. I can highly recommend this hotel, had a lovely stay and Lanzarote presents some fantastic photo opportunities.

How to create 3D stereoscopic anaglyphs in Photoshop

Firstly, you need a stereoscopic pair of images. One left image and one right image. See how to take 3D Photographs and stereoscopic pairs. Click Here.

This method is a quick "easy" method and not strictly a true anaglyph but it does give results fast. A true anaglyph will balance the color channels so that when viewed through the red/green lenses for example it will try to re-create as closely as it can the original color of the subject.

  1. Open your left image in photoshop and make sure you're in RGB (Red, Green & Blue) mode.

  2. Select the color channels window.

  3. Choose the Green Channel.

  4. Select All.

  5. Copy Selection.

  6. Open your right photo.

  7. Select the Green Channel in the channels window.

  8. Paste

  9. Select all the channels by clicking RGB in the channels window.

  10. Save As (this is your new Red/Green color Anaglyph).

Tips

If you're taking the photos one at a time with one camera you might want to bring both photos into photoshop on separate layers before you start. You can then reduce the opacity on the top layered photo so that you see both of them together. In this way you can then move the position of the top layered image so that both the images align properly because more than often the images will not match correctly.

Once you've adjusted your photos position remember to then crop this photoshop file so that you end up with a perfectly matched pair.

Other Methods

There's a number of ways to produce stereo anaglyphs including producing them from black and white originals I've listed the links below.
